Cat's Cradle I finally got a chance to watch some of TV shows cluttering the Tivo, and one of them was this past week’s Alias. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’m going to ruin it for you and let you know that the whole premise of the show was “ice-five”, which is either an homage to “ice-nine” in Kurt Vonnegut’s excellent Cat’s Cradle, or a cheesy rip-off. I have a feeling they meant to go for the former, but it ended up much more the latter, using only the “ice-nine” from the story, and skipping out on all of the sarcasm and irony encirlcing the Books of Bokonon (Although I guess Marshall could qualify as the midget Newt Hoenikker).

For all one or two of you out there subscribed to the syndication feed (RSS or atom), you may have noticed that a bunch of old posts appeared. After getting hit with a ton of comment and trackback spam, I’ve finally upgraded to one of the WordPress nightly builds (1.5-beta-1 2005-01-18). It probably doesn’t look much different on your end, but the backend is much improved, and I have moved my design over to using the themes, so upgrades should be a simple tar -xzf wordpress.tar.gz away. This should also improve my ability to deal with all the spam that is a pain in the ass. I promise I will update soon, since I finally have a little free time.

After a long day at work, I get in my car for my 5 minute drive home and when I turn on the radio, its some sort of salsa/latin music all in Spanish. What the hell happend to WHFS? They were taken over by the Mexicans! The new motto is “Siempre de fiesta” - “Always partying”. Well, I no longer get to party all the time I’m in my car. I first heard of HFS when I would visit my Aunt and Uncle in Maryland. That’s where I first heard Hum back in the day (summer of ‘95). When I moved down here in June, they were the first station I programmed in my car. DC101 is ok, but they seem to play only the top 40 linkin park wannabes. HFS was almost like a commercial college radio station, with their 90s nooner playing quality modern rock from the good old days (yes I am getting old and becoming one of “them”). Anyways, now is the time to stop trying to switch between commercials and finally hook my iPod up to my car. R.I.P HFS.
